Horselogging in Arrallass Estate

A 200-strong contingent of land agents, wildlife trusts and forestry organisations attended the British Horse Loggers Seeing is Believing demonstration hosted by the Duchy of Cornwall's Arrallass Estate. The Price of Wales became patron of the British Horse Loggers four years ago and is passionate about the use of horses in woodland management.

Horselogging has considerable benefits over other extraction systems. Horses reduce the need for roads and tracks required by heavy machinery. Horses can extract timber effectively and safely through standing trees without causing damage to the trees or other flora and fauna. It allows for highly selective silvicultural management, meshing well with the 'continuous cover' management techniques practiced by the Duchy of Cornwall and advocated by Prince Charles.
