Shropshire photographer Jim Stephens is a new contributor to the library. I have just uploaded some wonderfull organic carrot harvesting photographs, along with others includng free range chicken images and organic pig photographs.The carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus, Etymology: Middle French carotte, from Late Latin carōta, from Greek καρότον karōton, originally from theIndo-European root ker- (horn), due to its horn-like shape) is a root vegetable, usually orange in colour, though purple, red, white, or yellow varieties exist. It has a crisp texture when fresh. The edible part of a carrot is a taproot. It is a domesticated form of the wild carrot Daucus carota, native to Europe and southwestern Asia. It has been bred for its greatly enlarged and more palatable, less woody-textured edible taproot, but is still the same species.

It is a biennial plant which grows a rosette of leaves in the spring and summer, while building up the stout taproot, which stores large amounts of sugarsfor the plant to flower in the second year. The flowering stem grows to about 1 metre (3 ft) tall, with an umbel of white flowers that produce a fruit called americarp by botanists, which is a type of schizocarp

Equestrian Photographers donate images to Auction for Haiti

20 PHOTOGRAPHERS - 20 IMAGES - 1 CAUSE

Twenty of the nation's top equestrian photographers have come together to offer their support to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

On offer are twenty stunning original equestrian images which will be sold though an online auction commencing 28 January 2010. All involved in the project are giving their time and resources free of charge to ensure that every single penny raised at the auction will go directly to the DEC Appeal.

The auction provides a rare chance for members of the public to get their hands on some amazing original images taken by a plethora of award winning photographers. Each image will be signed, mounted and framed.

Contributing Photographers include:

Tim Flach - multi award winning author of Equus and the creator of some of the most distinctive equestrian images known today.

Henry Dallal - author of Pageantry and Performance and Horse Soldiers. An example of Henry's work sold at auction in 2009 for in excess of $11,000.

Kit Houghton - official photographer to the FEI (International Equestrian Federation) and with over 25 years experience photographing horses, Kit's work is featured in publications the world over.

Ed Whitaker - winner of the Sports Photographer of the Year Specialist Portfolio award at the Sports Journalism Awards 2009, four times winner of the Horserace Writers and Photographers Association Photographer of the year and author of "In the Frame", Ed is undoubtedly the foremost racing photographer in the United Kingdom

James Horan - winner of the Press Photographers Association of Ireland Sports Photo of the Year 2008 and author of My Lovely Horse and Australian Rodeo.

Bob Langrish - veteran of six Olympic Games, he has flown 1.5 million miles in the last 14 years pursuing images of horses and has published countless books and calendars of the equine form.

Charles Sainsbury-Plaice - Country Sports photographer with over 80 Field Covers to his name and photographer for the England Polo team.

Cotswold Country Living photo shoot

Last Friday I photographed the new range of Tba (T.ba) clothing for Cotswold Country Living. Modelling the clothing were Serena Cookson and Susie Scarlett Dowty, with Di McDonald doing make-up and James Lane-Fox assisting. Bibury Court Hotel in the Cotswolds lent us tthe venue which I must say was perfect along with the weather.

Visit to the Scilly Isles for the Duchy of Cornwall

This week I got to see some sunshine in St Mary's on the Scilly Isles. The assigment was to photograph one of the Duchy of Cornwall's latest holiday lets, The Gate House. A charming cottage whhich sleeps four people. With interior design by Annabel Elliot I would strongly recommend this cottage and the Scilly Isles as a fantastic holiday destination. Easy to get to with regular flights from Newquay, Exeter and Bristol. Great light for artists and photographers.

The Cartier International Polo 2009

This year I was honoured to be photographer for four of the Audi sponsored polo matches. The pinnacle event in this series was the Cartier at Guards Polo on 26th July 2009. A great match between England and Argentina.

Argentina retained their winning form in the Coronation Cup - this year defeating England 12-5, thus adding to their victories on this day in 2000 and 1995. However the final result did not do justice to what was a great game which provided plenty of thrills - and fortunately no spills - for the 20,000 plus spectators at Guards Polo Club. The Audi-sponsored England team always knew that they had a tough game, but were ready for the challenge and as England captain Luke Tomlinson said after the match, "at least there was not as much pressure on us as last year"

Royal Welsh Show 2009

I went to the Royal Welsh Show on Wednesday. What a day. Despite having loads of rain the place was packed with happy smiling faces. The arenas were a quagmire, but this only added to the fun of watching the Welsh Cobs with their handlers. There was certainly plenty to see for Countryside lovers and I would say one of the best shows I have ever been too (if not the best)

Royal Show 2009

Charles Sainsbury-Plaice was honoured to be chosen as one of the photographers to cover the last Royal Show at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. The Royal Show will now become AgriLive and a separate Equestrian Event. The highlight for me was undoubtedly the final Burke Trophy parade of cattle, which I photographed from the top of the Merial Animal Health building with a 500mm lens.

Horselogging in Arrallass Estate

A 200-strong contingent of land agents, wildlife trusts and forestry organisations attended the British Horse Loggers Seeing is Believing demonstration hosted by the Duchy of Cornwall's Arrallass Estate. The Price of Wales became patron of the British Horse Loggers four years ago and is passionate about the use of horses in woodland management.

Horselogging has considerable benefits over other extraction systems. Horses reduce the need for roads and tracks required by heavy machinery. Horses can extract timber effectively and safely through standing trees without causing damage to the trees or other flora and fauna. It allows for highly selective silvicultural management, meshing well with the 'continuous cover' management techniques practiced by the Duchy of Cornwall and advocated by Prince Charles.
